Buzzvil People took the opportunity to introduce each Buzzvillians with a variety of backgrounds, personality, and thoughts. If you are wondering how best colleagues in Buzzvil are gathering to create the best team, if you are curious about each of the colorful Buzzvillians, please pay attention to Buzzvil People.
1. Please give us a quick introduction of yourself.
I’m Andy — I work in data extraction and analytics at Buzzvil. I studied in the U.S. from middle school through college, where I first studied Pharmaceutical Science then switched to Statistics to Data/Computer Science. After graduating, I returned to Korea and settled at Buzzvil. In my free time, I binge a lot of cooking videos on Youtube. I love experimenting with new recipes and cooking techniques to share with my friends and colleagues.
2. What brings you to Buzzvil?
After graduating from college and returning to Korea, I yearned to work for an IT company that promotes the use of new software engineering tools and techniques. I searched job websites for open positions with the keywords “specified cloud technologies,” and Buzzvil seemed to be the perfect fit.
3. What is your role at Buzzvil?
I am a Data/DevOps engineer working as a part of the DevOps team, which means my responsibilities include creating and managing data pipelines as we generate new data, maintaining and optimizing our data warehouse (Redshift), and making data accessible for other Buzzvilians through Metabase.
4. How does it feel to work at a startup? or advertising industry?
Working at a startup company as a software engineer is like playing a sandbox game. Most of the time, I am free to try out new technology and concepts whenever I like. If I really like something and decide to move forward with it, I am given virtual access to a myriad of data assets and infrastructure.
5. Is there something that you can say “this is the best part being Buzzvillians”?
The unlimited supply of freshly roasted coffee beans! It was a shock to me when I first joined. I can choose from more than 3 varieties of coffee beans whenever I chose to brew coffee. Our coffee breaks are such an important ritual for our team (DevOps) that we actually take part in daily scrums while brewing coffee. The fact that I can enjoy top quality coffee without spending a penny is quite an enjoyable bonus while working at Buzzvil.
6. Do you have a personal goal or dream? If so, how does your experience at Buzzvil help you?
Personally, my ultimate dream lies in the food/restaurant business. Even though I do not have a clear vision in my mind yet, I yearn to create and provide a service that makes great food accessible to the public, while minimizing the influence of biased data and harmful interventions. Experiences in Buzzvil as a Data Engineer will allow me to meet up with a great team, create a scalable yet robust service, and hopefully, have a positive impact on what people consume.
