1. Please give us a quick introduction of yourself.

Hello. This is Haein, AD Operator at Buzzvil Advertisement Sales Team. My full name is Haein Kwon – as you can see, my Korean name is Haein as well. I think I am the first member at Buzzvil to use the same name for both Korean and English.

I have been in charge of advertisement sales at Buzzvil for the last year and 5 months. They say that I am the longest running AD operator, but age-wise, I am in fact the youngest on my team. As the longest running AD operator, and as the youngest member, I interact with the older operators – sometimes helping each other, sometimes nagging each other…! We try our best to make the most of our time here.

It’s been quite some time since I saw the phrase ‘introduction of yourself’! To use some keywords: I consider ‘experience’ as highly important. I believe that I can earn insight from various kinds of experiences, and that gaining even more experience from such insight will make my life wonderful. Hence, at Buzzvil, I try my best to improve myself by gaining much experience and to meet diverse types of people as much as possible, whether work-related or not!

2. What brings you to Buzzvil?

I joined Buzzvil because I anticipated growth in the mobile advertisement industry and also the fast growth potential one can expect from start-up companies. Buzzvil is the second company I have worked for – I used to work in a PR agency before. Then, I was tasked with branding and marketing based on social media channels; hence, I had absolutely no clue about advertisements before I joined Buzzvil. I remember being so nervous during the application process for Buzzvil. ‘Can I really make the cut?’ I tried my best not to expect too much.

However, once I began preparing for the job interview, I saw that this company had a very attractive platform and business model. On the day of the interview, I found the interior space to be so pretty! I really tried my very best during the interview. I also asked a lot of questions. The first round of interview took almost an hour and a half – I was exhausted on my way home, I recall. Thankfully, the interviewers were nice and helped me relax and have fun.

In the end, I got my acceptance letter and joined a month later as the operator. To be quite honest, joining Buzzvil was a big challenge for me, as I changed the course of my career for this opportunity. Thinking back, I do believe it was worth the risk. Not only did I get to see the world of mobile advertisement, but also am receiving great ‘experiences’ by working with wonderful people and learning countless things on the way.

3. What is your role at Buzzvil?

At Buzzvil, we provide a front-page mobile media platform called ‘BuzzScreen.’ Buzzvil Advertisement Sales Team is in charge of providing the BuzzScreen Platform to companies to obtain and manage advertisement orders. As the operator, I manage the advertisement orders obtained by the sales managers. I am also responsible for optimizing the advertisement efficiency.

Responsibilities of an operator includes setting and managing the obtained advertisement order, achieving the client KPI through ad optimization, and answering Q/A as well as resolving any issues coming from the client groups. This job is perfect for advancing an understanding for advertisements while performing tasks. On top of this, you can also develop an eye for drawing insight from data analysis. Personally, I was able to develop performance marketing skills using the advertisement and data while working as the operator.

In addition, operators are at the forefront in terms of communicating with the client. One attractive point of this job is that you can hear the client needs first-hand in the field and apply them to you daily task. When you spend a whole day communicating with the clients, you naturally grasp the most top-of-the-line trends happening in the advertisement market.

Sometimes, you get a change to challenge yourself and go beyond the daily operator tasks. You may discuss with other teams to improve the advertisement management tools. We sometimes publish monthly magazines by creating insightful contents based on the trends we obtained from day-to-day tasks. You may even propose a new targeting option or function by analyzing the data from the campaigns you manage – depending on your capacity. I personally feel most satisfied when doing these extra tasks.

All that talk is really looking like a PR for the operators. But it’s true! If you want to delve into the world of advertisement, working as an operator can be a great experience. 4. How does it feel to work at a startup? or advertising industry?

I think the common factor between startup and advertising is ‘change.’

I feel that the advertising world is changing every day. You can hear news about a more advanced advertisement function and targeting almost daily. Buzzvil appropriately handles the fast-changing advertising world or makes changes itself. I believe that such quick adjustments are based on ‘flexibility for change,’ something innate in startup companies.

Perhaps the ‘endlessly changing advertising world’ and ‘startups with flexibility for changes’ are the perfect couple. I feel proud that by working in such a perfect combination, I am learning the know-hows for adapting to (or adjusting to) the fast changes.

5. Is there something that you can say “this is the best part being Buzzvillians”?

Buzzvil is a company where great people work in independence. We have everything. ‘Independence’ and ‘People’.

If I was to choose between the two, I will choose ‘people.’ There are some great people here with professional attitude towards their work. Not only are they excelling in their fields, they are positive and very nice. I think Buzzvil was able to grow in such fast pace because great people came together to create synergy.

Wouldn’t you agree that this is because everyone is equipped with amazing professionalism? Buzzvil is organized and managed based on independence. Everyone is in charge of independently performing their tasks with responsibilities. There is no detailed guideline for the organization or the tasks. Therefore, it doesn’t matter how long you have been here for. You can experience being an important decision maker or enjoy freedom of working in a nearby café with a cup of coffee – as long as you can concentrate on your work!

6. Do you have a personal goal or dream? If so, how does your experience at Buzzvil help you?

I actually received a similar question during my job interview. My answer is still the same. My dream is to become a ‘career woman.’ I want to become a specialist in a field and get a chance to fully unleash my potential – and ultimately, contribute to the company.

I am still not sure which field I wish to become a specialist in. I want to be a performance marketer based on the past experience and data analysis kills, but also want to delve deeper into the advertisement. I think this year will be a pivotal year for me, as I concretize my future career path. While both are very attractive choices, I want to find one that fits me better. For this, I am trying to make every day worthwhile.

Whichever path I choose, the experience from Buzzvil will get me a step closer to becoming a ‘career woman.’ It gave me a chance to learn about a new field, ‘advertising,’ while working with some amazing people who are true professionals and career women! Of course, I will need to work even harder. I am excited to learn and to see myself getting closer to my goals.
